The difference is in the details

A small island.
A remarkable coffee.

Puerto Rican coffee is high quality primarily due to its ideal growing conditions and careful cultivation practices that favor dense, flavorful beans over high yields. The combination of altitude-driven slow ripening, nutrient-packed volcanic soils, favorable tropical mountain climate, Arabica genetics, and attentive farming produces inherently high-potential beans.

Coffee thrives in Puerto Rico’s Cordillera Central mountain range. Cooler nights and moderated daytime heat slow cherry maturation. This extended ripening develops denser beans with more complex sugars, acids, and flavors.

Volcanic soils are mineral-rich, well-draining soils high in potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, and other nutrients and contribute to the coffee’s characteristic smooth body, sweetness, and balanced profile.

Consistent rainfall, humidity, mild temperatures, fog/mist, shade from trees or canopies, and influences like trade winds create stable conditions. Shade-growing is common and helps protect plants while enhancing flavor complexity and sustainability.

From farm to cup

We just bring out the best in it.

The result is typically a smooth, full-bodied cup with low-to-moderate acidity, sweetness, and notes of chocolate, caramel, nuts, and sometimes fruit or floral elements—distinct from brighter, higheracidity Central American or African coffees.

Wet processing is common and yields clean cups; selective hand-picking and improving post-harvest methods further support quality. Our specialty lots consistently score 82+ on Specialty Coffee Association scales, with recent examples reaching 92–93 points on Coffee Review.
